Resource Reflection
Technology has made many advancements in very little time. From advancements in phones and home entertainment, to things as wild as human genetics and medical vaccinations. Many people may believe that some of these technological advancements are taking away from our natural social skills that we were better developing in the past, but to me I think that is only partly true. Technology has revolutionized the way we view the world. However I do feel that it can be a gift and a curse at times. A lot of social media outlets do cause kids and people in general to live up to certain expectations that may not be realistic.
Einstein believed that the day tech surpasses human interaction, we will have a generation full of idiots, which i don't necessarily disagree with. Because it's 2018 and people are very gullible and self conscious. But I don't think technology is the only thing to blame, and if you looked at all the incredible benefits in technology you would consider it a world of brilliant people, with ideas people in his time couldn't fathom. The "one simple question" video we watched in class today, depicts a bunch of families and the different generations and asks what they did for fun as kids. The elders and their kids all reverted back to the cliche playing outside, or playing with friends scenario, but they treated the grandchildren's ideas of fun (Games and technology) because it's not what they liked to do. Yes being in nature can be extremely beneficial to kids but so can looking up things on an ipad. Yes you can go outside and play with friends but if it rains then what do you do? Today you can Facetime friends even when you're not in the same state or country and still enjoy yourselves. Technology allows us to do more but it doesn't restrict anything, it all comes down to moderation.
The other video from class, "Technology hijacked the dinner table", shows how multiple families didn't usually interact at the dinner table, but when a pepper shaker invention disconnects all of the electronics in the house there was chaos... but eventually people began interacting. But I think families can both interact w/ or w/o technology. You can have a family moment watching a movie or playing a family game, or you can just talk. Neither way is wrong, you just have options.
Now other things are a little bit harder to gauge considering the deal with actually changing genes and cells in the human body.
For instance things like the article on the Chinese researchers who claimed the first gene-edited baby, and the new and improved attempts at vaccinations for HIV. I'm not a scientist so I can't say if these are things I agree with because I don't have enough info even from the read articles. But I can't say that the HIV vaccinations aren't something that everyone would like to see become effective, due to the years of unsolved sickness and death that comes with the virus. But as for editing genes and DNA in embryos to change the outcome of a human, I think that is a very scary and unpredictable situation that could have unpredictable and detrimental side effects.
As I had earlier mentioned we have witnessed many technological advancements throughout recent years, and an article about the top 25 inventions of 2017, touches on that. It lists all sorts of things from home robots and advanced yet simpler security systems, to updated iphones and virtual reality goggles. They even invented glasses to help blind people see, which is simply amazing and revolutionary. Even though many elders believe technology can be a hassle or intervene with human interaction, others believe that it can be very useful and adapting as technology adapts, according to the article on How Millenials Use Technology It Shows how many adults are starting to use and appreciate it tech just as much as their kids.

Some adults bash technology like they do not use it just as much as millennial's. I will say that most adults I have been around use more technology than millennial's because they did not have it in there time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Hadens comment about the adults using it more at times. Some adults dont use it very much but a good amount of them use it just as much if not more than most millineals.
ReplyDeletegreat thoughts sharing, Honor roll kid! I will just argue how to use technology wisely will be a serious issue for the human beings now and in the future.
